About Me

Hey! I'm Naisha, a second-year computer science major at UCLA.

I am broadly interested in machine learning, and specifically its applications to fairness and ethics.
At UCLA, I am involved with the ScaI lab, as well as being an ACM AI officer and the ACM Impact director.

Besides computer science, I am an avid singer and am part of the UCLA club tennis team.

  • Student

    I am a second-year computer science major at UCLA. Notable classes taken: Data Structures and Algorithms, Probability, Linear Algebra, Computer Organization, Discrete Math

  • Leader

    I am the ACM Impact Director, where we host workshops and conduct research on tech ethics to spread awareness to the UCLA student community. I am also an ACM AI officer, where I host a podcast "You Belong in AI" with esteemed guests in the artificial intelligence space.

  • Researcher

    I am involved with the ScAi lab and am currently working on a research project on the effects of randomness on fairness in graph neural networks. I also conducted research under the mentorship of MIT professor Julian Shun on fairness in social media recommendation systems. Notable publications: ACM SIGKDD conference, UCLA Undergraduate Journal, Top 300 Regeneron Scholar.

  • Hacker

    I participated in Stanford's Tree Hacks this past February. Along with my team, we built ChatTeach , a virtual learning platform that adapts different characters from movies/TV shows to teach kids educational content, making their learning experience more engaging and effective.

  • Singer

    I love to sing. I have performed at Carnegie Hall, won numerous competitions, and have a singing channel. I also started a nonprofit, Singing for Smiles, during the pandemic to spread joy to whoever needed it most through the power of song.

  • Tennis Enthusiast

    I am part of the UCLA Club tennis team, and am an avid fan of anything tennis. Roger Federer fan for life :)

2023 ACM SIGKDD Conference

Presented my work on fairness in recommendation systems at the 2023 KDD conference in Long Beach, California. Was an amazing experience talking to leading companies and seeing the relevance of my research in a corporate landscape.

Y Combinator Conference

Was one of 400 people chosen from over 2000 appplicants for the 2023 Y Combinator Summer Conference. Listened to inspiring talks from leading entrepreneurs, and gained further insight on entrepreneurship, business, and how to start a company.

Tree Hacks 2023

Attended my first hackathon at Stanford! Worked with team members to build ChatTeach, a learning platform for kids.

Singing for Smiles

Started my nonprofit, Singing for Smiles, during the pandemic to spread joy through the power of song. Performed for 60+ senior homes, and have 40+ singers on board. Collaborated with 4-time Emmy nominee Con Fullam, and was recognized by various news outlets.
